Hi, folks.
I love gore and visceral satisfaction! - Not sure if this has been touched upon, but how about using gore to set a scene? - static gore for effecting fear and trepidation toward an impending situation that could possibly be unsavoury for our character. For example: a darkly lit dungeon with blood trails leading to dismembered corpses and such scattered about the place, torture devices, cautionary graffiti on the walls and so on. The one thing I miss about games these days, and perhaps it is because i'm older, is having the piss scared out of me. I think RPG's have become very pretty, and very much full of content, but sadly they are emotionally unaffecting. I still have fond memories of that first meeting with the Diablo 1 butcher, and playing doom 3 with the lights off.
