Small Object Destruction

Another thread asking about destruction from me, I'm needy aren't I for destruction haha. Like in the video you can move the smaller objects like tables chairs, crates and stuff like that.

My question is could stuff like this be breakable? You could also hide stuff in barrels that would either be very rare, or dud items. To break open you'd either have to swipe it with your sword or battle axe, or use the thaumaturgy to force to the item into another or into a wall.

So could destruction be implemented on to the small items like:

Barrels
Chairs
Tables
Market Stalls
Crates
Trees (maybe? Not sure as to whether this would be a bad thing)

I love destruction but its your call guys, I know you'll make the best game whatever you have in it.

I wonder if they will be implementing a sprite system for big statics like dungeon/cave/castle walls: so we see scorching, cracks, and typical destruction on said geometry. I do hope to see some form of destructive effect of combat and magic on the entire game world. Humbly wishing away!

Breaking stuff is definitely something we'd like to do, it's fun and adds realism. I have some ideas on how to break things that goes beyond just exploding them into pieces. We're unlikely to use a fully procedural system however so every object that can be broken would require more work. How many things you'll be able to break really depends, it's priority but not an essential feature.

So generally speaking: crates, barrels, tables and such?

Well just accidental breakages like glasses and bowls on tables that get in the way of sword fights. You then have the being whacked into a barrel break which is always a fun one. There's also the barrel roll of a high place and break.

I guess if SG will be true physics we won't see much superficial destruction (sprites and particles). Even if there is a limited amount of items that can be destroyed, I get the feeling that the amount of objects that can be manipulated is going to 'break the board' for games out there. I want to throw a fireball into a pile of debris and watch every bit of it affected by physics. Additional destruction and mayhem is always a plus!

It would also be great to say, be travelling the country side when some bandits try pushing a bunch of rubble and broken carts and shit at you from a ledge.

I think everyone is gonna want to upgrade their PC's before this game, not that it will be a power hog or anything, but you'll want the best of the best!

Yes, it would be great to actually have a practical reason to want to upgrade... rather than simply a natural desire!!!
